One of the great joys of plastic surgery is that there are constantly breakthroughs happening and advances being made—meaning that with each passing year, plastic surgeons are able to provide clients with greater results, shorter recovery times, and higher standards of safety. That’s very much the case here at Charlotte Plastic Surgery, where we take pride in being on the cutting edge of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures in Charlotte, NC.
A lot has changed just in the past year—with more exciting breakthroughs coming down the pipeline in 2019. In this post, we’d like to look back but also look forward, providing a glimpse into where cosmetic surgery has been and where it’s going next.
Breakthroughs in Surgical & Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures
In 2018, we saw a couple of major breakthroughs in surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures—including Alastin’s TransFORM body product and the Juvederm Vollure filler.
The TransFORM body product is something that’s especially relevant for those having CoolSculpting done; basically, it speeds up the results and minimizes the appearance of loose skin or a “crepey” skin texture. It’s a great example of an established cosmetic procedure being made even better.
As for the Juvederm Vollure filler, it’s an FDA-approved treatment for wrinkles and fine lines on the face, though it really comes with a lot of applications. One thing that makes it so exciting—a true breakthrough, in our opinion—is how long-lasting it is. For some of our patients, the results of a single injection last up to 18 months!
Industry Staples Still Packing a Punch
We’re always excited about the latest and greatest cosmetic products, but we also want to shine a light on some of the tried-and-true treatments that are still offering amazing value, even in 2018.
Take the Mommy Makeover—which for years has been our most popular procedure. This suite of surgeries—usually encompassing some combination of a tummy tuck, breast lift, or breast augmentation—allows moms to look the way they did before having kids. It continues to be popular for a number of reasons—including the advent of Exparel, which makes these procedures painless; progressive tension suturing, which means no draining is needed during the recovery phase; and of course, the incredible results our surgeons can offer.
Breast augmentation itself remains popular among our clients—and it, too, is only gaining in value. Vectra imaging helps patients improve their satisfaction level by showing them a more than 90 percent accurate image of what they will look like post-procedure. And, there are more implant options than ever before—allowing clients to better hone in on the look they wish to achieve.
Best In-Office Treatments
Over the past year, we’ve seen our clients enjoy great satisfaction and success with a number of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures—including a few in-office procedures that we think are top-tier in the cosmetic industry.
First there’s CoolSculpting. This is a painless, non-surgical way to remove stubborn, extra skin all over the body, though we’ve found that it’s especially effective when targeted to the arms. Since CoolSculpting received FDA approval in 2017, our clients have really taken to it—especially as they get ready for the beach season!
We have also seen a lot of client satisfaction come from the Sciton Halo Laser—a safe in-office procedure that provides remarkable age-prevention and age-reversal effects.
Another in-office procedure we love for cosmetic surgery in Charlotte, NC is microneedling with PRP. The use of PRP has been around for a little while, but we’re just now starting to see the clinical benefits – both with Microneedling with PRP and PRP injections into the tissues of the face.
And, we continue to see great results with the use of dermal fillers—especially in the under-eye area and in the hands, where dermal fillers are great for minimizing veins and boney appearance.
Best Medical-Grade Products
Let’s also recognize some of the best medical-grade products that we offer here at Charlotte Plastic Surgery. Three of the most popular options for cosmetic surgery in Charlotte, NC from the past year include:
- SkinMedica’s Lumivive, which protects against blue light from our electronic devices (and so much more).
- Alastin’s Rejuvenating Skin Nectar, a game changer when it comes to fixing the damage under our skin.
- Revision’s Intellishade, a convenient way to shorten your morning routine. This product is convenient and works for many different skin types!
What’s Coming in 2019?
Clearly, there was a lot to be excited about and grateful for in 2018—and 2019 looks to be another banner year!
One thing we expect to see more of in cosmetic surgery in Charlotte, NC are non-surgical cosmetic procedure options that provide patients with excellent results and short downtimes. This includes the increased use of dermal fillers to help women (and men) reshape their eye area, noses, and jawlines as well as many other areas of the face. It also includes continued use of PRP in a variety of applications.
Another 2019 prediction is the appearance of improved skincare products, all of them useful in shortening our regimen. Just like how Lumivive protects the skin against blue light while helping stimulate new collagen, we will likely see more “combination products” that perform multiple jobs for our skin.
And, our surgeons believe there will be even more surgical advances, centered on ensuring a safe procedure with a comfortable recovery. We mentioned Exparel above, which helps patients avoid the worst post-op pain, and we anticipate seeing more such advancements in the months to come.
An Exciting Time for Cosmetic Surgery in Charlotte, NC
There’s no doubt that this is an exciting time for surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures—and it’s the patient who reaps the rewards of all these advances. If you’ve been on the fence about having a procedure done, we’d simply note that there have never been more safe, effective, convenient, and FDA-approved options available—in terms of surgery, in-office treatments, and take-home skincare products.
