As we get older, our faces can betray subtle signs of age. One of the first places these signs show up is around the eyes. In particular, the appearance of bags under the eyes can cause one to look tired at all times. Thankfully, there are also some cosmetic interventions that can help you remove those bags and restore yourself to a more youthful appearance.
For anyone wondering how to get rid of bags under the eyes, one of the best things you can do is make an appointment with Charlotte Plastic Surgery. Come talk to us one-on-one and learn more about the solutions that can help you rejuvenate your face. In the meantime, here are a few quick insights into how to remove bags under the eyes.
How to Remove Bags Under the Eyes
Before we get into specific techniques, let’s focus on the reasons why these under-eye bags appear. The skin and muscle around your eyes are working hard, all day every day. They’re constantly moving, whether because you’re making a particular facial expression or squinting to keep the sun out of your eyes. This is a relatively thin area of skin, and the constant motion means that sagging is inevitable. That’s what produced those under-eye bags.
So what can you do to get rid of that loose, sagging skin under the eyes, and to revive your youthful appearance? There are four basic procedures we can recommend for how to remove bags under the eyes: An eyelid surgery or Upper blepharoplasty and lower blepharoplasty, a brow lift, or injections.
Blepharoplasty refers to surgery on the eyelids. This particular procedure focuses on the upper eyelids, which can become loose and saggy over time. This leads to a “hooding” effect, which not only makes you look fatigued but may also make it challenging for you to blink or to raise your eyelids all the way.
In upper blepharoplasty, your surgeon will remove a little bit of that saggy skin, leading to a tighter eyelid. In some cases, sutures may be used to reposition the underlying muscles, which enhances that tightening effect.
A blepharoplasty can be a great option for anyone who notices that “hooding” effect; the result is significant yet also offers plausible deniability. People will notice that you look refreshed but won’t necessarily know that you had any work done.
As you can probably guess, lower blepharoplasty is a procedure that targets the lower eyelid. And one of the most common eyelid surgeries discussed when talking about how to remove bags under the eyes.
This is where you can really, directly address those under-eye bags. During this procedure, a small incision will be made inside the lower eyelid; this incision mark won’t be visible to anyone after surgery. A surgeon will use a special tool to smooth out the pads of fat that push against your eyelids, and also help your eyelids to more naturally flow into your cheeks. The outcome is that those under-eye bags disappear, allowing you to no longer look so tired all the time.
Again, this is a subtle yet significant outcome, one that will enhance your appearance while still offering you that natural-looking result that so many of our clients seek.
Those looking for facial rejuvenation may also want to look into a brow lift. Though this doesn’t directly address under-eye bags, it can certainly lead to a more youthful expression.
The eyebrows play a critical role in showing emotion… and again, that’s a full-time job. Over time, it’s common for the skin around the eyebrows to sag, which can cause you to look angry or just exhausted.
In a brow lift procedure, the surgeon will make small incisions and then tighten the skin around the eyes. These incisions can be made behind the hairline, meaning they won’t really be visible to anyone.
Note that it’s very much a viable option to have a brow lift in conjunction with eyelid surgery; to find out which surgical option is best for your cosmetic needs, we’d once again recommend coming to our practice for a personal consultation.
Fillers and Injectables
There are obviously a number of good surgical options for rejuvenating the face, but what about those who aren’t yet ready for this level of intervention?
Another good option to consider is getting a fat or filler injection. There are a number of specific options here, but the best-known is probably Botox®. These injectables can help tighten the skin on your face, reducing the appearance of a sagging brow or under eye bags.
The plus, of course, is that there are very brief, low-risk procedures that you can have performed without the need for surgery. The downside is that the results are impermanent; for example, Botox® results tend to last about three months, give or take.
