Meet Dr. Chandler, Our Breast Augmentation Specialist

Professional Background

Dr. Chandler has felt drawn toward surgery since she was just 11 years old. Her father was an orthopedic surgeon, and when she accompanied him for a “Daughters to Work Day,” she immediately knew that she wanted to improve people’s lives through medicine and through surgery.

She went on to attend Florida State University on a full scholarship. During her time at the university, she worked in a neuroscience research lab where she studied the effects of estrogen on metabolism. She graduated from FSU with honors, obtaining a BS in Exercise Physiology and a double minor in Biology and Chemistry.

Dr. Chandler enrolled in medical school, also at FSU. It was during her final year of medical training that she discovered how much she loved working to help restore women’s bodies and self-confidence following their battles with breast cancer.

She graduated medical school at the top of her class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, which is the most prestigious honor available for medical school students. She completed a general surgery internship at Virginia Tech, then was invited to New York for a six-year integrated residency in the specialty of plastic surgery. This allowed Dr. Chandler the opportunity to learn from some of the top surgeons in the field, honing her operative skill and clinical acumen.

Dr. Chandler went on to complete a fellowship with Dr. Dennis Hammond, one of the country’s leading breast reconstruction specialists. Since then, she has been using her academic and clinical training to empower women, something she remains deeply passionate about. “My treatment goal is [to] restore confidence, whether that be from restoring a woman’s body after childbirth, with breast reconstruction after cancer, or with a body contouring procedure after weight loss,” Dr. Chandler explains.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Dr. Chandler is our in-house breast implant specialist… but what does that mean, exactly?

Simply put, we meet many women who are not satisfied with their figures. Specifically, they long for breasts that offer a fuller contour. Breast augmentation allows women the opportunity to transform the size, volume, and shape of their breasts, and to gain the natural-looking, curvy figure they have longed for.

Typically, breast augmentation is done via implants. When you first meet with Dr. Chandler to learn about breast implants, she will walk you through the different options you have with regard to incision type, implant type, and more.

At Charlotte Plastic Surgery, our goal is to provide results that are substantial, but also natural-looking. We understand the importance of choosing implant materials, and implant sizes, that work with the patient’s existing anatomy. When you sit down with Dr. Chandler, she will talk with you about achieving harmonious proportions.

Who’s a Good Candidate for Breast Augmentation?

It’s important to ensure that you are a good candidate for a safe and successful breast augmentation procedure. Generally, the best breast augmentation candidates:

  • Are in good health overall
  • Have fully developed breasts
  • Are concerned about the size or volume of their breasts
  • Feel as though their breasts appear “empty” or asymmetrical
  • Do not smoke, or are ready to give up smoking
  • Have realistic expectations about their breast augmentation results

Note that many of our patients are women who have lost breast volume due to significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

What are the Other Options for Enhancing My Breasts?

Breast augmentation is focused on adding size and volume. For women who are more concerned about the shape of their breasts, we may recommend a breast lift. A breast lift addresses drooping or sagging breasts, as well as undesirable nipple position. Note that breast lifts can be combined with breast augmentation to help you achieve your desired outcomes.

For women who feel like their breasts are too large, causing discomfort or self-consciousness, we may recommend breast reduction. Dr. Chandler is here to answer any questions you may have about these different options for breast surgery.
