Dr. Nyame of Charlotte Plastic Surgery gives his insight on the many devices used for procedures and speaks on the practitioners who utilize them. Our mission is to renew the quality of life and increase the confidence of our patients through restoration, preservation and enhancement of physical form and function. While most devices used for cosmetic enhancements are similar if not entirely the same from practice to practice, it's the person who is using the device that makes the difference. Our estheticians are well versed and experienced in all cosmetic enhancement procedures and have been helping people look their absolute best for years. We want our patients to feel as comfortable as possible before, during and after each procedure. While our estheticians each specialize in the use of a specific device, we make sure that they are comfortable using every device on hand for any type of procedure that our patients undergo. Knowing what tool to use and how best to use it based on the desired outcome and skin type is something our estheticians pride themselves on.

Microneedling is a method that can dramatically enhance your skin’s appearance. It can be used on all skin types. Plus, it can be performed on all parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back. Microneedling reverses years of damage by creating tiny punctures in the skin’s surface. This promotes the renewal of collagen and elastin, which revives your skin. We compare it to the effect of a chemical peel, but without the redness or flakiness. Not only is microneedling an easy and comfortable procedure, it’s also quick. At Charlotte Plastic Surgery, we can perform this procedure within 15 to 30 minutes,Plus, the downtime is very minimal. Your skin will be slightly pink anywhere from 24 to 72 hours, and that’s it!

Dr. Kevin Smith of Charlotte Plastic Surgery joined Good Day Charlotte to discuss the negative effects of blue-light. More specifically he discusses on how it damages the skin and what people can do to prevent this from happening. Evolving research has shown that blue light can be bad for skin. It’s certain that blue light in the 380–400 nm range is problematic, although the risk seems to lessen somewhat toward the top end at 500 nm. Long-term blue light exposure to concentrated sources of blue light energy can cause skin damage, including color changes, inflammation, and weakening of the skin’s surface. Simply put, blue light promotes stressors in skin that cause photo-aging; that is, aging from exposure to light. Without question, sunlight is the main source of blue light to which we are exposed; digital devices emit only a fraction of that amount of radiation, however we still need to be cognizant of how much we are using our devices. A major difference is that our phones are much closer to us than the sun, and this “close-up” exposure matters. In contrast, blue light UV is more diffuse and much further away. A simple solution for blue light protection is to cover your phone and tablet with a blue light screen shield. It’s a cheap fix, eliminating the need to worry about skin care or sunglasses when using your phone or tablet (if only it were that easy for your skin and the sun). Whether it’s the light from sun exposure or from your smartphone, without question, you need to protect your eyes during the day. Limiting screen time is the best method to avoid blue light exposure. In terms of skin care to help prevent blue light damage, look for serums loaded with antioxidants and consider a skin care routine formulated with ingredients proven to address the visible effects of airborne pollutants. Although blue light isn’t the same as smog, both cause unwanted skin issues.
