If you are a Charlotte-area resident who is looking for one of the best plastic surgeons in America, then look no further! It’s official, Newsweek magazine named Dr. Stephan Finical in their 2022 list of Best Plastic Surgeons in America.
This isn’t the first award that Dr. Finical and the other surgeons at Charlotte Plastic Surgery won. Charlotte Magazine named the practice the “Best of the Best Plastic Surgery Practice” for seven years in a row.
The team at Charlotte Plastic Surgery is proud of Dr. Finical’s award. We strive for excellence in every aspect of our practice and are honored that Newsweek recognized this excellence.
About the Newsweek Best Plastic Surgeons in America Award
Each year, Newsweek commissions a national survey of plastic surgeons. They ask these surgeons to recommend the best plastic surgeons in America and their particular state.
Newsweek partners with Statista which is a market research and customer data firm. Newsweek and Statista apply other ranking criteria in addition to the survey results.
The rankings cover five of the most sought-after cosmetic surgery procedures:
- Breast Augmentation
- Eyelid Surgery
The criteria include the total number of procedures performed per year and market volume in the US. They rank the top cosmetic surgeons for each procedure with some doctors ranking across multiple procedures. The honorees must excel at one or more of these popular procedures.
In 2022, our own Dr. Finical made their list of the best plastic surgeons in America. Plastic surgery is gaining in popularity and acceptance. According to The Aesthetic Society, in 2021 a typical plastic surgeon performed 320 surgical procedures, compared with 220 performed in 2020. While Dr. Finical and the team at Charlotte Plastic Surgery are beyond typical, this statistic indicates that demand for plastic surgery increased.

The Sought-after Cosmetic Procedures Newsweek Considers
As mentioned, the plastic surgeons recognized by Newsweek magazine must specialize in at least one of the following procedures. These are among the most commonly performed and sought-after procedures in the United States.
Rhinoplasty, sometimes known as a “nose job,” is done to reshape or resize the nose. Dr. Finical is one of the top 150 surgeons in the world for this operation as demonstrated by his membership in the prestigious Rhinoplasty Society.
Rhinoplasty can treat:
- The nose’s size in proportion to other facial features
- The width at the bridge of the nose or around the nostrils
- Smooth the nose’s profile including humps, bumps, or depressions
- The appearance of an enlarged, hooked, or bulbous tip
- Overall asymmetry
People often seek rhinoplasty to change the shape or proportion of their nose, but sometimes it is used to address functional issues such as a deviated septum to allow better breathing.
Breast augmentation refers to surgery done to increase the size of the breasts or enhance their shape. Many opt for augmentation to achieve the figure they want and some to restore their figure after a mastectomy.
These days, there are so many options including silicone, saline, and gummy bear breast implants. A skilled surgeon not only performs the procedure but helps the patient understand the options and benefits or risks associated with each.
Statista reports that breast augmentation was the second most common plastic surgical procedure in 2021 with 364,753 people opting for augmentation.
Breast augmentation can:
- Increase the fullness of the breasts
- Improve the balance and proportions between the breast and hip contours for a more “hourglass shape.”
- Improve self-confidence in many cases.
Many people find that while they lose fat through diet and exercise, there are just some places where stubborn fat clings. You can’t spot reduce unwanted fat through diet since fat distribution is largely genetic and hormone-related.
Liposuction can permanently change the body’s proportions by removing fat cells from specific areas. It isn’t a substitute for weight loss and is generally best for people in good general health who are close to their healthy weight range. It is a great option for someone who retains a little extra fat in an area like the hips, thighs, or upper arms that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise.
According to Statista, Liposuction was the most popular plastic surgical procedure in the United States in 2021 with 491,098 people opting for it.
Liposuction can remove fat from the following specific areas:
- Abdomen and waist
- Buttocks and hips
As people age, some prefer to retain their younger face as long as possible. A facelift resolves loose skin that naturally happens from aging and the loss of skin elasticity. During a facelift, the surgeon removes the excess skin and then re-drapes the skin resulting in tighter-looking skin and smoothing some of the wrinkles. A successful facelift offers long-lasting results and makes people look ten years younger in many cases.
Some of the cosmetic concerns a facelift can address include:
- Tightening the relaxed or sagging facial skin
- Decreasing the deepening fold lines that occur between the corner of the mouth and the nose
- Removing or moving facial fat that has fallen or shifted
- Improving the appearance of jowls around the cheeks and jaw
- Improving the appearance of a double chin or “turkey neck”
Eyelid surgery is in some ways similar to a facelift but focused on the delicate skin around the eyes. The thinner, delicate skin around the eyes is often where the first signs of aging occur. People who do not need or want a full facelift often opt for eyelid surgery to tighten the loose skin and smooth wrinkles.
Some younger people also use eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of their eyelids if they were born with an issue. Sometimes the issue, such as deep folds, may even negatively affect vision.
Statista listed eyelid surgery as the fifth most common cosmetic surgical procedure in 2021 with 149,668 people choosing to have eyelid surgery.
Eyelid surgery is often used to correct:
- Sagging or loose eyelid skin that creates folds on the upper eyelid, sometimes even impairing vision
- Puffiness caused by fatty deposits in the eyelids
- The appearance of bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids that droop enough to reveal white below the iris
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles in the area
